Philippians 1:5

“For your fellowship in the gospel from the first day until now”

What a wonderful circle of friends we gain when we enter the Kingdom of Heaven, when we become born again.  It is then that we automatically have something in common with ever church, ever nationality, every age group.  There is no reason to be alone, or to be without a purpose in life.  He gives us purpose in the fellowship of the saints!

Once we enter the body of Christ, we become an integral part of that body.  We are needed, and we have a purpose.  We may not recognize that purpose right away – we may not even sense we have a purpose.  But ever one within a fellowship has some divine reason for being that, and it is found as we enter into fellowship with one another and with the body.

Once we learn our purpose, it is with joy that we go about doing that task.  Maybe it faithfulness, maybe it is prayer; maybe it is with encouraging words.  Perhaps you can sing, or teach, or clean the church.  Maybe you have a gift of the spirit you can share.  Whatever the purpose, you must remember how vital you are.  Our fellowship in the gospel is unique in this way.  No one is expendable.  Every part is necessary.

So when you enter your church fellowship each week, rejoice!  You have come to a place where everyone fits together to accomplish God’s divine plan.  You are a part of a masterpiece.  Joy is easy when you know you are needed!

Lord, help me to remember that I am a vital part of the body of Christ.  I have a purpose in my local fellowship of believers.  There is a reason God put me here, in this church.  Lord, help me to know my purpose here, and to fulfill it with joy!
